The Odyssey

Camino Cycling Holiday

THE CAMINO QUEST

The Camino Quest follows the iconic pilgrimage route of Saint James from London to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Quiet rolling French countryside riding moves onto the rewarding Pyrenees. As we pass Pamplona the excitement of "Buen Camino" really take over as we see the ever frequent blue and yellow scallop shells.

The arrival at the Cathedral of Santiago is made special because everyone's Journey to this end point is unique - an absolute must for any cyclist.

The Journey is split into two legs, with cyclists completing either the first or second leg, or the entire route.

Leg 1: London to Bordeaux                 Distance:  990 km / 615 miles          Duration: 11 days

We depart London and head south towards Newhaven for the afternoon ferry across to Dieppe, before we continue south. The first few days of any Journey is a shock to the system, but thankfully well maintained French cycle highways along with the pleasures of continental life, the road into Paris will all go smoothly.  We will have one rest day in Paris to visit the Saint-Jacques Tower - marking the true start of the pilgrim route.

The next section offers relatively unchallenging terrain on undulating French rural country lanes and cycle trails. Any saddle discomfort is quickly forgotten thanks to the endless quaint picturesque French villages we pass.  After this leg there is a real satisfaction with having cycled the length of France in little over a week

Leg 2: Bordeaux to Santiago               Distance: 1076 km / 668 miles        Duration:  11 days

From Bordeaux we follow the coast towards the Spanish border where we are greeted by the beautiful Pyrenees. To ensure you are fully rested for these tough climbs, every night on the Journey is in hotel accommodation. We want you to cycle hard during the day and rest well in the evenings.

Passing up and over the Pyrenees is no easy feat, but the awe inspiring views are well worth the effort. As we leave Pamplona and head towards Alto del Perdon the full extent of this pilgrim movement hits you. Buen Camino being encouraged by those you encounter, endless 360 degree panoramic views, and mouth watering tapas - it's no surprise why Spain is a Mammoth favourite.
